Take Time to See the Spectacular Texas Hill Country Scenery!

You've probably noticed a proliferation of wildflowers in the imagery throughout our Quilting Adventures web site. We've chosen to emphasize this Texas Hill Country stereotype, because it is exactly what we hope you'll see during the early March timeframe of our seminars!

We never know for sure when the flowers will burst forth, but at seminar time the Texas Hill Country is likely to greet you with a spring thunderstorm or a grand display of wildflowers.

As you cruise over the gently rolling hills of the backroads in the Texas Hill Country you really will see rail fences, stone walls, iron gates and often a cattle guard as entrances to even the smallest of "ranches". And you will often find these entrances decked out with other reminders of years past such as cattle brands, wagon wheels, and even an occasional antique wagon.

While it is highly unlikely that you will encounter snow during our seminar weeks, we have been known to get snow in the coldest winter months.

We can almost guarantee that you'll see at least one gorgeous hill country sunrise or sunset while you are here. The Texas Hill Country skies are often clear and sunny during the daytime followed by star-filled skies at night.

As you can see, all of this adds up to some excellent opportunities to practice your photography skills and capture some inspiring scenes for an upcoming quilt!

Speaking of photography, we share a full-size version of this image and several others on our Hill Country Photographs page, along with detailed instructions for printing the images to fabric.

Antiquing the Texas Hill Country

If you love to antique, you'll enjoy the 150 year old homes turned into shops in the small town of Comfort. Nearby Boerne is also filled with wonderful antique stores. For unique gift shopping as well as antiquing, try Gruene or Fredericksburg.

Natural Attractions

Want to enjoy the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country?

We have several favorite spots to suggest. Consider Enchanted Rock State Park outside of Fredericksburg where the walk is either gentle or ambitious and the views are grand and sweeping. For a closer look at native flora of the Hill Country, try the Cibolo Creek Nature Center in Boerne and the Riverside Nature Center in Kerrville. Uniquely, Fredericksburg offers The Wildflower Seed Farm which has taken to heart Lady Bird Johnson's love of Texas wildflowers.

Uniquely "Texas" Attractions

Interested in something a little different?

The Museum of Western Art, formerly known as the Cowboy Artists of America Museum, in Kerrville provides an opportunity for visitors to relive the Western heritage through great Western art. If you are in Kerrville, don't forget Sue's favorite - Kerrville Arts and Cultural Center (KACC). Consider visiting Bandera, Texas - the heart of Texas cowboy lore. Rustle up loads of information on the Bandera Texas Convention and Visitors Bureau website.
