Quilting Adventures - Hill Country Style
Seminar 2:
March 11 - 16, 2007

What have you been up to lately?
Lots of teaching trips the last few months, but the pace will be a little slower in the immediate future. Stacks of boxes with quilts to be quilted await me and I will get them done in short order.

Do you enjoy your machine quilting?
After quilting professionally for seven years, I can truly say I enjoy opening each box and deciding how to quilt the top within. I'm blessed that I love what I do. I hope it never stops!

How do you decide how to quilt each one?
I'd say 60-70% of the quilts that come to me contain flowers, so that's an easy choice on those. Others call for stars or some patriotic theme, then there are those with water themes that use boats or fish or waves, others are for children and it is lots of fun being creative there, and the last group are holiday themes and I never get tired of trying new quilting on them. If nothing shouts to me, I can have fun trying new designs or use feathers, cables or something else - but never stipple quilting!

When you take time to make a quilt, are there colors you prefer?
I actually like a combination of red, white and black with occasional use of blue.

Any trips recently?
My kids and I considered investing in a Mexican vacation place until I came to my senses. Other than teaching trips, I took a day trip to New York City and saw everything that could be crammed in. I am heading to England in November to teach there and am really excited about that!

How do you like your choice of living in Oregon ?
Absolutely love the house, my neighbors and the views. I live on a lake and am a short quarter of a mile from the ocean. My brother helped with remodeling and I have great studio space in the converted garage with good light and lots of space.

What other interests do you have?
Some people would call it gardening, but I refer to it as 'playing in the dirt' since I don't have much success with things growing for me here. And then there's Amos, the ball player. He's a black lab who takes walks with me and is always ready to fetch a thrown ball.
