Transforming the Still Life
with Katie Pasquini Masopust

We will begin work from a white still life, drawing it in many different ways to learn about value, shadows, texture, highlights and different kinds of perspective. This is a drawing class so don’t be afraid if you can’t draw. We will learn how to draw together by learning to really see through blind contour drawings. Adding color gives opportunity to explore many different color schemes and their impact. Then images will be projected onto the still life to create color, texture and drama. Several abstract drawings for quilts will be the end product of the class.

with Sylvia Pippen

Design and construct an original wall hanging sparked by the colorful flora and fauna of Hawaii. Learn to draw and simplify flowers, fish and critters into shapes that look realistic, yet are easy to hand appliqué. Next, develop fabric selection skill that brings dimension and life to your designs, and last, compliment your piece with traditional or innovative sashiko and embroidery embellishment. Many facets of appliqué and embellishment will be covered: needle turn, paper piece, iron-over templar, curves, points and finishing techniques.
